The Full Story
About
On BEing explores themes of emotional turmoil, particularly the disorienting and often jarring experiences of seeking belonging, navigating grief, and pursuing self-transformation. Framed through the lens of the natural world, drawing subtle parallels between human emotion and the elements of nature. In this way, it examines the interconnectedness of these two realms and invites reflection on the broader existential questions that shape our understanding of self—how we practice being and belonging within the world around us.
The formal, process, and material aspects of the work blur the lines between the mediums of ceramics, printmaking, and textiles through innovative techniques. The work incorporates traditional printmaking methods—such as monoprint transfer and screenprinting—to create new approaches for decorating ceramic surfaces. The collection of “wall tapestries,” each composed of tessellating ceramic tiles in various shapes, sizes, and formations, echo traditional quilting patterns. The series weaves together observations drawn from the natural world, rendered through ceramics, and reflections on the inner landscapes we all navigate. These layers are stitched together by the subtle—sometimes nearly imperceptible—thread that connects our internal emotional landscapes to the external natural rhythms and elements of the earth.
